As for USB to RS-232 adapter, we recommend a FTDI-chip based adapter like the VScom USB-COM 
http://www.vscom.de/vscom-usb-com-mini.html as an example, which is a cheap and pretty reliable USB-adapter which handles that flow-control good enough for CNC-machines,
